At Better.sg, we believe tech should not only be smart, itshould also be human. Our Are You OK? chatbot (RUOK) was built with this vision: to boost the emotional competency of peer supporters so they can better support those around them.
Recently, RUOK had two exciting opportunities to step into the spotlight.
Benny Lim, the project lead of RUOK, recently went on MoneyFM to share about the inspiration behind the chatbot, and to raise awareness on how technology can empower more empathetic, informed conversations.
Beyond discussing RUOK, Benny also reflected on lessons from his time in social work at the Ministry of Social and Family Development, and how those experiences continue to shape his vision of building tech for care.

By a stroke of serendipity, a psychology lecturer who heard the MoneyFM interview reached out and invited the RUOK team to share with 100 Temasek Polytechnic Psychology students. A reminder of how conversations in the community can spark unexpected doors of connection!
The session introduced students to the potential of using technology to enhance mental health outcomes. The team shared how RUOK was designed to complement human empathy, not replace it, by equipping peer supporters with tools to hold more supportive and informed conversations. Students were encouraged to think critically about how digital solutions could integrate with traditional approaches to care, and how their future roles as practitioners might shape this evolving space.
These opportunities highlight how tech-for-good projects like RUOK don’t just live on our screens. They spark conversations, open doors, and inspire the next generation of changemakers.
✨ Huge thanks to everyone who has supported RUOK so far, and to lecturer Izad G. who invited the RUOK team for the sharing. The journey is just beginning, and the team is excited to keep building tools that put care at the heart of technology. Watch this space!
