Imagine waking up one day and realizing you're someone else—a different race, a different gender, living with a whole new set of challenges and opportunities. This is the core of ToBeYou, an interactive fiction game designed to help players experience life from a perspective far removed from their own. Through the lens of different identities, players are invited to make choices, face dilemmas, and navigate a world that might be easier, harder, or simply different from what they know. The game doesn't just ask players to empathize—it immerses them in a lived experience, pushing them to truly understand what it means to walk through life as someone else. ToBeYou is more than a game; it's a journey into the complexities of identity and the power of empathy.

What We've Achieved So Far

Since its launch, ToBeYou has reached over 15,000 visitors and 5,000 players, with nearly a dozen organizations incorporating the game into their programs. This widespread use reflects the game's impact in promoting empathy and understanding across different social identities. We continue to seek volunteers for partnership and outreach roles, such as media relations, social media management, and collaboration with major organizations that want to use the tool.

We're aiming high with ToBeYou—our goal is to continue inspiring young people to reflect on social differences and develop greater empathy for those different from themselves. Through compelling narratives, we invite players to step into the shoes of others, challenging their assumptions about race, gender, and privilege. We hope to continue refining the game and expanding its reach through partnerships with schools and other organizations.
