Overview

RecycleGoWhere was created with a clear mission: to help Singaporeans recycle more effectively and reduce the environmental burden on Pulau Semakau, the country’s only landfill. Without proper recycling habits, the landfill's capacity will be exhausted, leading to environmental damage and a potential need for new landfills—something Singapore simply cannot afford.

RecycleGoWhere addresses the barriers to recycling, such as lack of knowledge, inconvenience, and insufficient incentives, by making the process easier and more accessible to Recycling Beginners and everyday users alike.

What We Have Created

RecycleGoWhere is an AI-enabled web application that uses Google Vision and Maps APIs to provide users with clear, easy-to-understand instructions on how to recycle correctly and where to find the nearest recycling facilities. Through the use of Instagram, It provides a platform to share the knowledge to users on how to identify recyclables and provides tailored information on how to avoid contamination. With the geolocation capabilities, users can easily locate nearby recycling points or even arrange for collection services directly, reducing the inconvenience that often discourages regular recycling.

Our Acheivements

Our Instagram has already seen substantial engagement, with our mascot, Uncle Semakau, gathering over 1,400 followers on Instagram, helping us reach a broader audience through fun, relatable content. Our website, RecycleGoWhere.sg, is actively being used by residents to search for recycling locations and manage their waste more effectively. With a focus on youth adults—who tend to recycle less due to lack of knowledge and the inconvenience of finding recycling points beyond blue bins—RecycleGoWhere is making recycling simple, accessible, and part of everyday life.

Looking Forward

Our goal is to further increase engagement, with a target of 1,5000 social media followers and 200 monthly active users on our platform. By collaborating with organizations to host recycling events and collecting user data, we aim to influence environmental policies and further improve recycling habits across Singapore. Ultimately, we plan to hand over RecycleGoWhere to a larger stakeholder or governmental organization to ensure its sustainability and growth. Our commitment is to make recycling a seamless part of life in Singapore, empowering individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to protect the environment.
